The Canadian government is providing C$30 million in financial support to Conifex Timber Inc., a forest-products company based in Mackenzie, British Columbia.

The funding was announced on September 18, 2026, through the federal Large Enterprise Tariff Loan (LETL) facility. The program is designed to provide liquidity to Canadian companies affected by tariffs and trade-related pressures.

Conifex operates a sawmill and bioenergy plant in Mackenzie and supports approximately 260 direct jobs. The company produces lumber products and generates renewable energy from manufacturing residuals, with some of that electricity supplied to BC Hydro.

The federal government said the financing will help Conifex adapt to current market conditions, support workers and strengthen its long-term operations.

Ottawa has also expanded the LETL program, increasing the maximum period covered by liquidity support from 24 to 36 months and extending the maximum loan term from 10 to 15 years.

The move comes as Canada's forest sector continues to deal with U.S. trade measures and softwood lumber uncertainty, putting greater attention on domestic investment, market diversification and the resilience of Canadian businesses.
