Ontario is investing C$1 million to help establish a new concrete railway-tie manufacturing facility in North Bay, a move expected to create approximately 19 full-time jobs and strengthen the province’s domestic rail supply chain.
Announced on October 23, 2026, the funding is being provided through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to support RailOne Rainbow Canada Corp. The money will help refurbish an existing building, purchase manufacturing equipment and support marketing activities.
The planned facility will manufacture concrete railway ties for passenger transit, high-speed rail and heavy-haul freight projects. The company aims to serve customers across Canada while reducing reliance on imported railway components.
RailOne says the new operation will combine Canadian business capabilities with German concrete railway technology. Company management expects the first phase to nearly double its local workforce.
The investment comes as governments seek to expand Canadian manufacturing capacity, improve infrastructure supply chains and create jobs in Northern Ontario. The facility could provide a new domestic source of railway materials as transportation projects develop.
The project positions North Bay for a larger role in Canada’s rail-manufacturing supply chain, although the announced jobs and production capacity are expectations associated with the planned facility, not a guarantee of immediate results.
