Canada and Singapore have launched a new Economic Partnership Framework aimed at strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The framework was announced on September 18, 2026, by Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. The two governments described the initiative as building on decades of economic, governmental, business and academic cooperation.

The new framework comes as Canada continues to expand and diversify its international economic relationships. Ottawa has been pursuing closer cooperation with partners beyond its traditional trade relationships while focusing on resilient supply chains and new investment opportunities.

Canada and Singapore already have established economic and people-to-people links, and the new framework is intended to provide a structure for deeper bilateral cooperation.

The announcement comes during a significant period for Canadian foreign and economic policy, with the federal government also pursuing expanded partnerships in Europe and other international markets.

Further cooperation under the framework could create opportunities for Canadian and Singaporean businesses while strengthening the countries' broader economic relationship.
