Two of Canada’s biggest financial companies are preparing to put up to C$75 billion in private capital toward major infrastructure and economic projects across the country.

Bank of Montreal (BMO) has committed up to C$70 billion over the next decade, targeting areas including power generation, oil and gas pipelines, transportation infrastructure and artificial-intelligence computing.

Sun Life Financial is planning a further C$5 billion investment, including direct debt and equity financing for major Canadian infrastructure projects.

The commitments come as Canada seeks to attract more domestic and international investment and strengthen its economic resilience amid continued global trade uncertainty.

The announcements also arrive just ahead of the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on September 14–15, where Prime Minister Mark Carney's government is seeking to catalyze C$1 trillion in total investment over the next five years.

The new private-capital commitments could provide additional financing for energy, transportation, digital infrastructure and other major Canadian projects, potentially supporting construction, investment and economic growth.
