Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government is preparing to host Canada’s first-ever Investment Summit, with Ottawa seeking to attract massive new investment and strengthen the country’s economic independence.
The Canada Investment Summit will take place in Toronto on September 14 and 15, bringing together major global investors, Canadian CEOs and public-sector leaders. The federal government says the initiative aims to help catalyze C$1 trillion in total investment in Canada over the next five years.
More than 160 Canadian projects are expected to be presented to investors across areas including energy, mining, defence, power generation and emerging industries. Asset managers representing more than C$100 trillion in assets are expected to assess investment opportunities.
Carney’s government is positioning the summit as part of a broader strategy to reduce Canada’s economic dependence on the United States, attract international capital and accelerate major nation-building projects.
The summit comes as Canada faces continued trade tensions with Washington, making economic diversification and domestic investment increasingly important political priorities.
If successful, the initiative could become a major test of the Carney government’s strategy to turn Canada’s resource base, infrastructure and skilled workforce into stronger long-term economic growth.
