A 30-year-old Washington state resident has been arrested and charged in the United States over an alleged role in the February 2026 Tumbler Ridge school shooting in British Columbia, marking a major new development in the cross-border investigation.
U.S. prosecutors identified the suspect as James Cody Bryant of Bellingham, Washington. The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges that Bryant communicated with the shooter for months before the attack and provided advice, money and technical assistance.
Authorities allege that Bryant agreed to help broadcast the attack online and provided assistance related to equipment and preparations. He faces a U.S. charge of conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country, which carries a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
The February 10 attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School left eight people dead and 25 others injured, according to authorities. The shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack.
The latest arrest adds an international dimension to one of British Columbia’s most serious recent criminal investigations, as U.S. and Canadian authorities continue examining the events surrounding the tragedy. The allegations against Bryant have not been tested in court.
