More than 60 years after their beginnings in Winnipeg, The Guess Who proved they still have the power to entertain, delighting fans with a hit-filled performance at Calgary’s Saddledome on Monday night.

The concert opened with a lively rendition of “Runnin’ Back to Saskatoon,” a song that perfectly captures the band's prairie roots despite their historic success in the United States. By the time the track was released in 1972, The Guess Who had already established themselves as one of Canada’s most successful rock acts, becoming the first Canadian band to top the U.S. charts with “American Woman.”

The show also marked a notable reunion, with co-founder Randy Bachman and lead singer Burton Cummings touring together under The Guess Who banner for the first time in 25 years. Throughout the evening, the pair reflected on their six-decade friendship, their rise from Winnipeg’s music scene, and the songs that helped shape Canadian rock history.

At ages 82 and 78 respectively, Bachman and Cummings demonstrated remarkable energy and professionalism. Bachman’s guitar work remained sharp and engaging, while Cummings’ vocals retained the warmth and character that made him one of Canada’s most recognizable frontmen.

Fans were treated to a collection of classic hits, including “These Eyes,” “American Woman,” “No Sugar Tonight,” “No Time,” “Laughing,” and “Undun.” The performance blended nostalgia with genuine enthusiasm, reminding audiences why these songs have endured for generations.

The set also celebrated the band’s harder-rocking side, featuring favourites such as “Albert Flasher,” “Clap for the Wolfman,” and “Star Baby.” Bachman-Turner Overdrive classics, including “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” “Let It Ride,” and the concert-closing “Takin’ Care of Business,” added to the evening’s crowd-pleasing atmosphere.

Opening act Don Felder, former lead guitarist of The Eagles, energized the audience with renditions of classic Eagles songs, setting the stage for a night built on familiar melodies and enduring rock traditions.

While musical trends have changed dramatically over the decades, The Guess Who’s straightforward rock-and-roll spirit continues to resonate. Their songs may be more than 50 years old, but they still carry the same charm, energy, and ability to make audiences smile.
