A new medical technology innovation hub has launched in Aurora, Ontario, with the goal of helping Canadian health-tech companies turn promising research into commercially viable products without moving their businesses overseas.

Named Audacity North, the not-for-profit initiative officially launched on October 19, 2026, at Megalab Group Inc. It brings together Megalab, York University’s Schulich School of Business and YSpace to support innovators working on medical devices, diagnostic equipment, wearable technologies and AI-powered healthcare solutions.

The initiative will connect startups and researchers with testing facilities, mentorship, investors, academic expertise and manufacturing networks. These resources are intended to help developers address technical requirements and move products closer to market.

Megalab’s 45,000-square-foot Aurora facility already provides testing services for medical-device safety, electromagnetic compatibility, durability and environmental performance. Additional laboratory and prototyping resources are planned.

Programming is expected to begin in 2027, with a further facility planned for neighbouring Whitchurch-Stouffville in late 2027 or early 2028.

The launch highlights Canada’s efforts to strengthen its domestic medical technology ecosystem, support health-tech startups and retain the economic benefits of homegrown innovation. The initiative’s long-term impact will depend on participation, investment and how successfully new technologies reach the market.
