LAVAL, Quebec — October 10, 2026 Canadian convenience-store giant Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. has agreed to acquire selected retail assets from Irving Oil, expanding its fuel-retail operations across Quebec and Ontario.
The agreement, announced on October 9, covers 50 retail locations in Quebec and two in Ontario, in Pembroke and Cornwall. It also includes fuel supply arrangements for 71 Couche-Tard-operated retail sites in Quebec and 18 cardlock locations serving commercial and fleet customers.
The transaction builds on the companies’ existing relationship, including a retail alliance in Quebec. Couche-Tard says the agreement would support its continued investment in convenience retail and fuel services.
The deal is not yet complete. It remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, including review under Canada’s Competition Act. The companies have not announced a completion date in the release.
The proposed acquisition highlights ongoing consolidation in Canada’s fuel and convenience-store market, where operators are seeking to strengthen retail networks and commercial fuel services. Its final impact will depend on regulatory approval and the terms implemented when the transaction closes.
