MONTREAL — Canada is putting fresh federal support behind digital culture as Montreal’s MUTEK Festival brings artists from around the world together for its 27th edition.

The Government of Canada announced $277,000 in financial support for this year’s festival on August 25. Canadian Heritage is providing $67,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, while Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions is contributing $210,000 toward marketing for the 2025 and 2026 editions.

MUTEK runs from August 25 to 30 and features nearly 120 artists from 28 countries, with programming focused on digital art, electronic music and emerging forms of creative expression. Events are being held at venues including the Société des arts technologiques, MTELUS and Maison symphonique.

The federal government says the festival helps showcase Canadian creative talent while attracting international visitors and strengthening Montreal’s cultural economy.

The investment highlights the growing importance of digital art and electronic culture within Canada’s broader creative sector, while positioning Montreal as an international centre for digital creativity.
