Canada and the United Kingdom have renewed their artificial intelligence (AI) security partnership, strengthening cooperation on emerging AI risks, technical evaluations and international technology standards.
The announcement came during Canadian Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Minister Evan Solomon’s visit to London on October 13. The renewed agreement builds on earlier collaboration between the two countries’ AI safety institutes.
Under the partnership, Canada and the UK plan to share information on advanced AI risks, exchange technical expertise and improve methods for evaluating AI systems. The countries will also explore coordinated evaluation activities and closer institutional cooperation.
The initiative comes as governments and technology companies work to develop increasingly capable AI systems while addressing cybersecurity, safety and reliability concerns. Shared standards and research could help both countries better assess emerging risks and encourage responsible AI development.
Solomon also visited Ireland, where he participated in discussions on AI adoption, digital infrastructure and innovation. The engagements highlighted opportunities for Canada to strengthen its technology relationships with European partners.
For Canada’s technology sector, the renewed partnership could create further opportunities for researchers, AI developers and businesses working on trustworthy AI systems. The governments have identified cooperation as a priority, although the announcement does not guarantee specific new contracts, funding or jobs.
