Bell Canada’s major artificial intelligence data centre project in Saskatchewan is moving closer to its planned launch, with more than 500 workers now on site and construction progressing across its four buildings.
The 300-megawatt Bell AI Fabric campus in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood, near Regina, reached a significant construction milestone on October 1. Structural steel is rising across the site, and preparations are underway for the interior fit-out of the first building.
Bell expects the facility’s first data hall to become operational in the first half of 2027. The project is designed to provide high-performance computing infrastructure for advanced AI workloads and other digital services.
More than 30 local companies and suppliers are contributing to the construction, including Saskatchewan-based businesses involved in electrical work, steel manufacturing, engineering and logistics. Indigenous-owned and affiliated businesses are also participating in the project.
The company and Saskatchewan government have also outlined plans for a potential larger AI infrastructure hub in the province. If fully developed, the broader expansion could involve investment exceeding $50 billion, although the expansion remains a longer-term plan.
Alongside the construction update, Bell announced a $1 million commitment to support mental health initiatives in Saskatchewan, with further details expected later.
The project highlights the growing role of large-scale data centres in Canada’s technology sector as demand increases for computing capacity to support artificial intelligence, cloud services and digital infrastructure.
