Bell Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan have announced plans for a major expansion of Bell AI Fabric, potentially creating a 1.2-gigawatt AI infrastructure hub in the province.
The proposed expansion would add up to 900 megawatts of additional capacity and could represent as much as $52.5 billion in total capital investment, according to the federal government. Ottawa described the project as the largest capital investment in Saskatchewan's history.
The project is expected to strengthen Canada's domestic computing capacity as demand for artificial intelligence, cloud services and advanced digital infrastructure continues to grow.
Bell said the full development could support 800 to 1,200 construction, engineering and technical jobs, create up to 600 permanent operations and management positions, and generate thousands of additional off-site and community jobs.
The company also plans to establish the head office of its national AI ecosystem in Saskatchewan, potentially giving the province a larger role in Canada's growing AI economy.
The expansion is planned in phases and remains subject to customer commitments, commercial agreements, permits, approvals and environmental assessments. Bell said the proposed facilities would use closed-loop cooling technology and partner-developed power generation.
The proposed investment could make Saskatchewan one of Canada's most important emerging centres for AI infrastructure, data centres and digital economic growth.
