Saskatchewan is asking the federal government to help finance three major event and cultural infrastructure projects across the province.

Premier Scott Moe has formally backed projects in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford, asking Ottawa to consider them under the federal Build Communities Strong Fund.

The proposed projects include Saskatoon's Downtown Event and Entertainment District, the Prince Albert Convention and Cultural Event Centre, and the Battlefords Arena and Event Centre in North Battleford.

Saskatchewan says it is prepared to match federal contributions up to a maximum of one-third of eligible project costs if the projects receive federal approval.

The province argues that the projects could deliver broader benefits beyond entertainment. Officials say the developments could support economic growth, downtown revitalization, housing development, tourism and major events.

In Saskatoon, the proposed Downtown Event and Entertainment District is being presented as a major city-building initiative that could attract concerts, sporting events and conventions while encouraging further downtown investment.

The Prince Albert project is expected to provide a new space for cultural events, conferences, recreation and community gatherings, while the proposed Battlefords facility is being promoted as regional infrastructure with recreational, economic and emergency-preparedness benefits.

The federal government has yet to approve the requested funding. The projects are now part of Saskatchewan's effort to secure a larger share of Ottawa's infrastructure investment.

The proposal could become an important test of federal-provincial cooperation on large community projects, particularly as governments balance infrastructure spending with other public priorities.
