A powerful storm has battered Toronto and parts of southern Ontario, triggering widespread flooding, power outages and transportation disruptions.

The severe weather brought torrential rain, damaging winds and large hail across the region on Wednesday, with flooding reported on major roads and streets.

At one point, about 65,000 Toronto Hydro customers lost power as trees and branches fell onto electrical infrastructure. Thousands remained without electricity as crews worked to restore service. Hydro One also reported tens of thousands of customers affected across its service area.

Flooding forced temporary closures on parts of the Don Valley Parkway, Gardiner Expressway and other Toronto roads, while transit services were disrupted in some areas.

The storm also caused significant damage at Rogers Stadium in Downsview Park, where sections of the open-air venue were damaged. Live Nation Canada said the stadium sustained significant damage, but no injuries were reported.

Emergency crews and utility workers are continuing cleanup and restoration efforts as Toronto and surrounding communities assess the storm's impact ahead of the Labour Day weekend.
