Police in Toronto are investigating a shooting outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Toronto, marking the second time the diplomatic building has been targeted by gunfire this year.

A consulate security officer heard a gunshot at about 4:46 a.m. Monday, according to police. Officers later discovered evidence of gunfire, including a shell casing and damage to the building's exterior. No injuries were reported.

Police said a suspect vehicle, described as a white sedan, was seen leaving the area. Investigators are working with U.S. authorities as they attempt to determine who was responsible and establish a possible motive.

The latest incident comes several months after another shooting at the same consulate in March. That earlier attack resulted in increased security around U.S. and Israeli diplomatic buildings in Toronto.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the latest incident, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford also spoke out against the attack and recent vandalism targeting Jewish-owned businesses in the city. Authorities have not confirmed a connection between the separate incidents.

The U.S. Consulate remained operational, although some services were reportedly being rescheduled. The investigation remains active as police review evidence and pursue leads.

The incident is likely to bring renewed attention to security around diplomatic buildings in Canada, particularly following the earlier shooting and other recent incidents in Toronto.
