The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is giving increased visibility to Chinese-language cinema this year, with six Chinese-produced or Chinese-language films included in the 2026 festival lineup.

The number represents an increase from three titles featured at TIFF in 2025, according to Reuters. The expanded presence includes films from mainland China as well as Mandarin-language productions connected to Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.

Among the featured films is It's My Time, directed by Bai Xue and starring Michelle Yeoh, along with Peter Chan's The Road Not Taken and Zou Jing's A Girl Unknown.

The festival has also highlighted international talent through special recognition, including a tribute award for Fan Bingbing.

The stronger Chinese-language presence comes as Canada-China cultural and diplomatic ties have been receiving renewed attention. TIFF continues to provide an international platform where filmmakers can connect with Canadian audiences and global film professionals.

The 2026 festival's programming reflects the growing diversity of international cinema in Canada, while giving audiences opportunities to discover filmmaking traditions and stories from across Asia.
