The Canadian government is investing $15.9 million in Winnipeg manufacturing projects as local businesses face continued uncertainty from U.S. tariffs and changing trade conditions.

The funding announced through Prairies Economic Development Canada will support 15 projects involving 11 Winnipeg-based organizations.

The projects are designed to help manufacturers modernize operations, increase productivity, strengthen domestic supply chains and enter new markets.

Among the recipients, Fort Garry Fire Trucks is receiving funding for new fabrication, welding and painting equipment, while Smartrend Manufacturing Group will use support to automate parts of its electronics production line and develop new products.

The federal government says the projects will support more than 358 jobs and include investments in new equipment, automation, digital systems, workforce training and expanded production.

For Winnipeg businesses, the funding comes as manufacturers adjust to higher trade uncertainty and supply-chain pressures linked to U.S. tariffs.

The investment also reflects a broader Canadian push to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity and help companies become more competitive in international markets.
