VANCOUVER — Canada is preparing to host a new international arts initiative that will bring artists and scientists together to explore the relationship between creativity, research and emerging technology.

SCI_ART 2026 will bring together artists, scientists and research institutions from Canada and the European Union through a transnational artist-residency program and festival.

The initiative is scheduled to take place across Vancouver Island, Vancouver and the Okanagan from September 22 to October 8, creating a multi-city platform for interdisciplinary artistic work.

The program is designed to encourage collaboration between creative professionals and scientific researchers, giving artists opportunities to respond to scientific ideas while introducing research audiences to new forms of artistic expression.

The project also strengthens Canada-Europe cultural cooperation, highlighting Canada's growing role in international interdisciplinary arts and creative research.

Rather than focusing solely on traditional gallery exhibitions, the initiative brings together art, science, technology and research, reflecting a broader shift in contemporary Canadian cultural programming.

SCI_ART 2026 could give Canadian audiences a new perspective on how scientific discovery and artistic creativity can influence each other while strengthening cultural links between Canada and Europe.
