Toronto-based quantum computing company Xanadu Quantum Technologies has signed a multi-year partnership with GlobalFoundries aimed at accelerating the manufacturing of photonic quantum technology.
The agreement is designed to move Xanadu’s photonic components beyond laboratory-scale development toward industrial-grade, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. GlobalFoundries will use its 300mm production capabilities in New York to support development and manufacturing of advanced photonic components.
The collaboration will focus on technologies including ultra-low-loss silicon nitride photonics and superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors, components that are important for Xanadu’s photonic quantum computing architecture.
The partnership comes as Canada seeks to expand its domestic quantum ecosystem. Ottawa previously committed C$195 million toward Xanadu’s C$893 million advanced quantum manufacturing project in Canada, including facilities for developing and commercializing quantum technologies.
The new manufacturing partnership could mark an important step in scaling photonic quantum hardware, potentially helping bridge the gap between experimental quantum systems and future commercial quantum computing infrastructure.
