The Canadian government is increasing support for technology businesses in Ontario with a $7.5 million investment in three Burlington companies working across artificial intelligence, aerospace, manufacturing and telecommunications.
Announced on July 27, the funding is designed to help the companies scale their operations, improve technology capabilities and create new opportunities in domestic and international markets.
A major part of the investment is going to PV Labs, an aerospace technology company developing advanced aerial imaging and stabilization systems. The company is undertaking a $14 million project, with $5 million in federal support, aimed at expanding Canadian manufacturing capacity for aerospace and defence technologies.
Another $1.5 million is being provided to Spatial Data Analytics, which develops solutions combining artificial intelligence, machine learning and geospatial technology. The company's nearly $4 million project will focus on commercializing AI tools for utility and telecommunications infrastructure inspection and management.
The third recipient, Modern Elevator Innovations, is receiving $1 million to upgrade its facilities, equipment and manufacturing processes.
The federal government says the investment is part of a broader effort to strengthen Canada's technology and industrial capabilities, while supporting businesses facing changing global markets and supply-chain pressures.
The announcement also highlights Ottawa's wider AI strategy, which includes a $500 million national investment to expand regional artificial-intelligence initiatives.
For Canada's technology sector, the Burlington funding shows how Ottawa is increasingly connecting AI, advanced manufacturing, telecommunications and defence technology as part of its strategy to build domestic innovation capacity.
