Canada and New Brunswick have finalized a new infrastructure agreement that includes more than $155 million in health-care funding over three years, supporting upgrades to health facilities across the province.

One of the first major projects will be at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital in Moncton, where more than $11 million in federal funding will renovate approximately 13,800 square feet of space and create 12 new endoscopy rooms.

A further $500,000 investment will support planning for a major redevelopment of the hospital's Emergency, Oncology and Obstetrics departments. The planned work is intended to modernize facilities, expand capacity and improve the environment in which health-care services are delivered.

The agreement forms part of Canada's Build Communities Strong Fund, which includes dedicated funding for health infrastructure. The federal government says the investments are intended to help provinces modernize essential facilities and strengthen health-care capacity.

The New Brunswick agreement comes as hospitals across Canada continue to face pressure to expand and modernize infrastructure to meet changing community needs.
