OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney has made changes to his parliamentary secretary team, appointing two federal MPs to new roles as the government prepares for the next phase of its legislative agenda.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced the changes on September 25, 2026, with Daniel Gobeil becoming Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
Sophie Chatel has also been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.
Parliamentary secretaries assist ministers with parliamentary duties and government business, including responding to issues in the House of Commons and supporting ministers on their portfolios.
The changes come as the Carney government continues work on major domestic priorities, including economic policy, infrastructure, trade and national security. The government has also been developing its One Canadian Economy agenda, with proposed legislative changes expected to return to Parliament.
The appointments give the government new parliamentary representatives for the agriculture, veterans affairs and national defence portfolios as federal political activity continues in Ottawa.
The latest changes are among the newest developments inside the federal government ahead of the next phase of parliamentary business.
