A Canadian healthcare technology initiative has surpassed a major milestone, with more than 100,000 patients consenting to participate in potential clinical trials and health research.

WELL Health Technologies and HEALWELL AI announced September 8 that WELLTRUST, launched in February 2026, has reached 100,000 patient consents through organic enrollment at clinics.

The platform allows patients to voluntarily and securely consent to be contacted about clinical trials and research studies relevant to their health circumstances. Patients can also revoke their consent.

HEALWELL's DARWEN AI platform helps match consented patients with clinical-trial protocols, while WELL's OceanMD technology captures consent during digital clinic check-in. The companies say the approach could help address one of the biggest challenges in medical research: finding suitable clinical-trial participants quickly.

WELL and HEALWELL plan to expand the network across WELL's 275 Canadian clinics, with an eventual goal of approximately one million consented patients.

The development highlights Canada's growing use of AI, digital health and privacy-focused patient data systems to support medical research and potentially accelerate access to new treatments.
