BARRIE, ONTARIO — The federal government is set to unveil new measures aimed at helping Canadian businesses invest in technology, equipment and expansion opportunities.

Secretary of State for Labour John Zerucelli is scheduled to make the announcement in Barrie on September 29, 2026, highlighting new federal efforts to support businesses of different sizes as they adopt new equipment and technologies.

The announcement comes as Canadian companies face increasing pressure to improve productivity, automation and digital capabilities while managing changing economic conditions.

Technology investment has become a major part of Canada's broader economic strategy, particularly as businesses adopt artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing systems and other digital tools.

The federal government has also been developing policies around Canada's technology infrastructure. Earlier this month, Ottawa announced additional industry support for its Responsible Data Centre Development Principles, bringing the number of participating organizations to 42 across Canada's data-centre, cloud, AI and technology ecosystem.

The latest business-focused announcement could provide further details on how Ottawa intends to encourage Canadian companies to upgrade their technology and production capabilities.

The move puts business technology investment and productivity at the centre of Canada's latest digital-economy agenda.
