Canada is investing $11.1 million in 16 space-technology projects led by 15 Canadian companies, supporting the development of technologies intended to strengthen the country’s space sector and expand its capabilities in satellite-based services.

Announced on October 15, 2026, the funding comes through the Canadian Space Agency’s Space Technology Development Program, which helps early-stage innovators develop and advance promising technologies.

The projects include work on satellite imaging technologies and Arctic sea-ice monitoring. These capabilities can support environmental observation, maritime awareness, climate research and access to information about remote regions.

The investment also aims to help Canadian companies move new space technologies closer to commercial use. Developing domestic expertise and intellectual property could create opportunities for specialized suppliers, researchers and highly skilled workers.

As demand grows for satellite data and space-based monitoring, Canadian-developed technology could help public agencies and businesses make better-informed decisions in areas such as transportation, environmental management and northern operations.
