The Government of Canada is expanding support for 5G-enabled innovation projects to help manufacturers modernize production facilities using next-generation digital technologies.

The initiative focuses on integrating private 5G networks, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices, robotics, artificial intelligence and edge computing into Canadian manufacturing operations, enabling faster and more efficient production processes.

Technology leaders say ultra-fast, low-latency 5G connectivity allows factories to deploy autonomous robots, predictive maintenance systems and real-time quality monitoring, reducing downtime while increasing operational efficiency.

Federal officials noted that the program is designed to strengthen Canada's advanced manufacturing ecosystem, encourage research partnerships and help small and medium-sized businesses adopt emerging technologies that improve productivity.

Industry analysts believe wider adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies will enhance Canada's competitiveness in sectors including automotive manufacturing, aerospace, clean technology, food processing and advanced electronics.

The initiative is also expected to support workforce development by creating demand for skilled professionals in telecommunications, cybersecurity, automation engineering and artificial intelligence.
