Canada is taking another step toward becoming a global leader in advanced technology after Bell Canada and the Université de Sherbrooke announced a new collaboration focused on quantum computing, cybersecurity and next-generation AI infrastructure.
The organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to combine Bell's telecommunications and digital infrastructure expertise with the university's internationally recognized research in quantum science and cybersecurity. Together, they plan to develop and test advanced computing environments that integrate high-performance computing (HPC), quantum systems and secure data infrastructure.
The initiative will focus on several strategic areas, including post-quantum cybersecurity, hybrid computing models, sustainable data-centre infrastructure and talent development for Canada's future technology workforce. Researchers will also explore new methods to protect critical networks against emerging cyber threats posed by future quantum computers.
As part of the collaboration, Bell will leverage its AI Fabric platform and national fibre network to help move promising research from laboratories into practical commercial and government applications. The project is also expected to create opportunities for students and researchers to work on cutting-edge technologies with real-world impact.
Technology experts say the partnership supports Canada's broader strategy to strengthen digital sovereignty, AI innovation and secure computing infrastructure, helping position the country as a competitive destination for advanced technology investment.
The announcement comes as governments and technology companies worldwide increase investment in quantum computing and AI, recognizing their potential to transform industries ranging from healthcare and finance to telecommunications and national security.
