TORONTO — Canadians are gaining another digital option for accessing mental health support after Sun Life launched a new online counselling service across Canada.

The service provides access to registered mental health professionals through secure virtual appointments and is available through Sun Life’s digital health platform. The service is open to Canadians aged 14 and older.

The launch reflects the growing role of virtual healthcare and digital mental health services in Canada, particularly as healthcare providers and organizations look for ways to make counselling more accessible.

Sun Life said the service is powered by Dialogue, allowing eligible users to connect with mental health professionals without requiring an in-person appointment.

The development comes as Canada's healthcare system continues to face workforce and access challenges, including shortages that have contributed to gaps in primary care and pressure on healthcare workers.

The expansion of virtual counselling could give more Canadians a convenient way to seek mental health support while reducing some barriers associated with traditional appointments.
