The Government of Canada has released a new progress update on the Vaccine Impact Assistance Program (VIAP), outlining changes made since the federal government assumed responsibility for administering the program earlier this year.
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) took over administration of the program on April 1, 2026. The agency says it has established new systems and processes to manage existing claims, appeals and financial supports.
A new VIAP Claimant Portal was launched on July 2, giving claimants another way to access information about their files. PHAC has also published the program's policy framework and additional guidance explaining how the system operates.
According to the latest update, the agency is now focusing on assessing more than 2,000 open claims and appeals already in the system. PHAC says a dedicated medical team is supporting this work while approved financial assistance continues for eligible claimants.
The update provides a snapshot of the federal government's ongoing effort to improve transparency, information access and administration of vaccine-related injury assistance across Canada.
