The Government of Canada is announcing new funding to advance cancer research and personalized cancer care, with Health Minister Marjorie Michel scheduled to make the announcement at The Ottawa Hospital on September 24.

The federal announcement is focused on strengthening cancer research and personalized approaches to treatment, an area that could support researchers working to better understand cancer and develop more targeted care.

The announcement is taking place at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus, where the Health Minister is also scheduled to tour a research laboratory following the funding announcement.

The timing comes as Canadian cancer researchers continue to develop new approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The Canadian Cancer Society has also highlighted recent Canadian research involving precision surgical planning, immunotherapy and cancer prevention, including work aimed at improving outcomes for patients with difficult-to-treat cancers.

A national clinical-trials funding initiative launched earlier this year is also supporting investigator-led oncology research, with up to $25 million planned across early-stage and full-scale clinical trials.

The latest federal investment puts cancer research, personalized medicine and medical innovation back in focus as Canada continues to expand research capacity and develop new approaches to cancer care.
